Gratitude

At this time of year, I'm especially grateful for my pioneer heritage. I do love the devotion of the pioneers of the Church. As I am writing about John  Taylor, I know he didn't have many nails to build his house or many matches to lite a fire. All the little things we take forgranted--things we don't even  give a second thought to were precious to them.

That first winter the pioneers supplemented their meager diet with sego lily and camus bulbs. They added thistle root when they could find it. How many of us would even consider eating those things now? I don't know if I would.

What faith they must have had to endure the trials before them.

Bathsheba Smith records that she swept the floor of her home in Nauvoo and set the broom in its accustomed place behind the door and walked into the unknown to journey west where her faith in God could grow.

I am grateful for her testimony.

The Temple

I find joy in many things in my life, but one of my greatest joys comes from serving in the temple. I not only love bringing blessings to others, but I bask in the goodness of my fellow workers. They are wonderful righteous servants of our Father in Heaven, and I am grateful for the light they bring to my life.

Love of God

Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things. Psalms 72:18

I love David's writings because he has a gratitude for God that isn't found elsewhere in the scriptures. There are days when I feel an overwhelming love for God, and the words of David say when I am feeling.

God is my Glory

In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Psalms 62:7

Where would I be without my God? I'm so grateful that He is part of my life.

Sing Praise

Do you even feel an overwhelming gratitude to God for giving you life and family and surroundings?
Well, I do. That's when I love reading David's beautiful writing in Psalms that's still applicable today.

So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows. Psalms 61:8

Gratitude Journal

When I am feeling down, I like to keep a gratitude journal. It brings me out of my funk. Try it.

You may decide to keep a journal all the time.

Saying Thank you

I love to tell others I am grateful for what they do for me. Just those two little words make me feel happy inside. Of course the smile on their face adds to my happiness inside, and then we both feel grate.

Say 'thank you.' It's the best medicine to chase the clouds away and let the sunshine in.

Accepting Thanks

I have a dear friend that has a hard time taking a compliment. When I tell her 'thank you,' she always says, "I don't know about that." And then I always say, "I know about it, and you're wonderful." She just laughs.

Consider the lilies. . .  God made us all. We are not perfect, but we are wonderful. Let others tell you about your goodness, and take it in. It will help you smile inside.

Gratitude

“We can lift ourselves, and others as well, when we refuse to remain in the realm of negative thought and cultivate within our hearts an attitude of gratitude.” Thomas S. Monson

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God. 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Gratitude and positive thinking go together. See if you can separate them. I've tried, but can't. They work as one.

Gratitude

“Gratitude is the twin sister of humility.”  James E. Talmage

At this time of Thanksgiving may we remember that these two great attributes go together. One is not truely part of us without the other. I will work to keep these two principles before me all year long.

Gratitude

As thankfulness grows in one's heart, gratitude becomes part of one's actions.

When I think of all those who have made my life as good as it is, I feel overwhelmed. I am thankful for the baker who makes my good bread, the farmer who grows my delicious produce, the builder who make my strong house, the machinist who put together my furnace, my family who loves and supports me, my religion that gives me faith to go on.

May my actions connote my gratitude.
